I can’t tell you how excited I am that we are about to open quiet Acts, our evening of one-act plays, in less than a week. It’s really exciting to see all of the work of our artistic team and our actors come together. It’s been exciting to see how our playwright for Prey, Laura …

Last weekend, quiet partnered with two other non-profit arts organizations (The Heroes and Rainy Night Productions) to present Barnstorm: The Cabaret Re-Imagined. Together, the three organizations transformed an empty storefront in Downtown Seattle into a bar, performance space, and art gallery. Over three nights, hundreds of people came through for great food and drinks, thought-provoking …

I’m in the middle of my second draft of the script for quiet‘s August production, The Beating of a Warrior’s Heart. As I’ve been exploring the characters and discovering the story over the past month and a half (not including the year that this project has been germinating in the background while working on other …

Sunday night I sat in on the first reading for our latest production, quiet Acts – an evening of one-act plays that opens June 1. I am so excited about our latest theatrical project, and hearing our actors dive into their first read-through was absolutely fantastic.
The evening will feature The Other Woman, by Casey Kelly, …

When we first began quiet, back in 2004, we were very explicit with the fact that we wanted to be forming a multi-disciplinary arts community. We didn’t just want to be about theatre, or music, or the written word – but we wanted the organization we were forming to encompass any …

It’s been a week since we closed our production of The Taming of the Shrew, and I’ve spent the last few days reflecting on the play, our performances, and the entire process of putting this production together. The audience response was especially intriguing. Shrew is typically performed as a broad comedy, brimming with slapstick humor …

With our production of The Taming of the Shrew set to open this Friday, we wanted to create a venue for dialogue that goes beyond our panel discussions and the usual post-performance chit-chat. With that in mind, we’re setting up space on the blog for your thoughts and comments about our performance of The Taming …

My wife got her first tattoos just a few days ago. She’s been looking forward to this for years and we finally buckled down, made the appointment, and headed off to Cicada Tattoos up on Aurora. Sure, she was nervous and a bit anxious about the appointment in the days leading up to the fateful …

I hope the Seahawks lose their game today. I know this will probably annoy a few people and possibly even make a few more angry, but what can I say? I really hate football and I look forward with great anticipation to the season finally being over. It’s all anyone seems to be able to …

The new year has begun and we’re getting ready to launch into our second blocks of rehearsals for quiet‘s upcoming production of The Taming of the Shrew, set amidst the whiskey-soaked chauvinism of early 1960. As we were thinking of established plays to produce for our season-long examination of issues surrounding gender, Shrew seemed like …
